Language is a hungry virus from outer space.

2003-12-09 - 11:08 p.m.

As regular visitors will know all-too-well, I'm very fond of language games, and even more fond of running my own poor Mirabile Visu creations through websites that feature language-game scripts. This evening I discovered The Eater of Meaning. I decided to let the Eater do its advertised work, eating the meaning of my page by subjecting to a process of "nonsensification" in which I had it eat whole words.

The Eater ate yesterday's entry. Here's the original, "A parade going gentle into that good night," and here's the eaten version. See if you can make heads or tails of any of it. This ain't Mirabile Visu -- apparently it's "Prestige Crib," a damn fine name I somewhat wish I'd thought of myself...

Important note about this for Kelly, Palinode, Schmutzie, Matthew Baldwin, Mimi Smartypants, Smoog, and all the others I happen to have linked to on Mirabile Visu: the virus is replicating and will soon consume us all!*

* What this means is that you should check out the links on the "eaten version" above. The Eater of Meaning does not stop at the destination page itself -- it modifies the links of said page so that when you click on them, it eats the linked pages as well. If you're interested in seeing your own page eaten, you need only click on your respective link on the "eaten version." How cool is that?
